THE WRITING MENTORS Four Week Intensive: asynchronous, self-paced course
In this intensive course, you will learn everything you need to begin your own writing mentoring practice. This course is designed for writers who already have some experience giving feedback and have some informational expertise in their genre, but could use support in turning that experience into paid work. A fully asynchronous course, you will watch four modules at your own pace and convenience. Each module is about two hours long and packed with information. You can sign up for an optional (but strongly encouraged) 1:1 meeting with Meg to cover questions and practice if you wish to; the optional 1:1 meeting is included in the cost of the course.
Since this course is fully asynchronous, you can begin any time. There are no refunds once the online course has been delivered to you electronically. All course material is protected under copyright and is intended for personal education only. No part of the course may be replicated or used without written permission from THE WRITING MENTORS.
THIS COURSE WILL BE AVAILABLE STARTING FEBRUARY 1ST. If you wish to, you may purchase the course now, and it will be delivered Feb. 1, 2026.
The following material is covered in the four week intensive:
MODULE ONE: What the Pedagogy and Research Demonstrate
What IS writing mentoring? How is it different from coaching, editing, and teaching? What is the pedagogy behind this concept, and what does the research teach us?
Developing your own philosophy, approach, and style — one that will lead to sustainable and meaningful work
Basic principles for fair pricing
How writing mentor practices can be beneficial in any writer-to-writer relationship
MODULE TWO: Common Challenges in a 1:1 Writing Relationship
How to support and guide a writer who isn’t writing, or otherwise not following through on their self-stated goals
How to approach problematic writing from a mentoring framework
How to offer publication support from a mentoring mindset
MODULE THREE: Watch it all come together!
In this module, you will watch a sample writing mentoring session — see the magic in action
MODULE FOUR: All the Nuts & Bolts & Practical Concerns
How to find and retain clients
Cross-genre work and building your client base
Contracts, taxes, invoices, pay sheets — all the “paperwork!”
There are a limited number of financial hardship scholarships available for this course. Please contact Meg via the Contact form for more information.
