In this five week virtual class, we will explore the challenges and joys of writing about family and family history effectively and authentically. Using mentor texts to elicit craft strategies and inspiration, writers will gain confidence and momentum as well as fresh drafts (or completed poems!). Three guest speakers, Jezmina Von Thiele (Monster More Alive), Laurie Ann Guerrero (Redwork), and Caroline M. Mar (Water Guest) will read from their work and share insights related to craft and process choices while approaching poems related to both real and fictionalized family stories.
Participants are strongly encouraged to purchase or borrow the books we will focusing on for this class, but doing so is not a requirement.
This class meets on Tuesday evenings from 7 pm - 8:30 pm EST on September 22, September 29, October 6, October 13, and October 20.
This class is open to writers of all levels and any genre, although craft discussions will emphasize poetry.
No refunds will be available after the start of the class.
